OUR STORY

COMPANY BISO DEVELOPED IN 1954 FIRST STRAW CHOPPER FOR CLAAS COMBINE. BUT THE REAL STORY NOT STARTED WITH THIS …

author: BISO published: 15.5.2020

The BISO ERNTETECHNIK, BISO SCHRATTENECKER and BISO developed a wide range of successful and technologically interesting products during the last 50 years. Everything is turning around now with the new 3D VARIOFLEX - a new header category. However, the interesting story of the company producing harvesting technics for combines started in 1985 with a rapeseed extension later called BISO INTEGRAL CX100. But let’s start from the present day.

The great success from 2019 – the BISO 3D VarioFlex AIR I got a silver medal at the Agritechnica Hanover fair.

2019 – BISO 3D VARIOFLEX AIR I – silver medal at Agritechnica

BISO is coming to the market with a completely new header which sets up the new 3D class category. The new header is integrating a vario system with flex module, air suspension and a completely new intelligent system of ground pressure adjustment from 2-50kg. All this technology is integrated in a well approved HYBRID frame. We showed the new header to our customers for the first time in November 2019 at the Agritechnica fair and their first reactions were more than positive.

The BISO 3D VarioFlex AIR I is a completely new header with a hybrid frame, a FLEX module with a parallelogram, air suspension and with many intelligent functions. And, of course, all this in combination with the vario table. The 3D is a NEW CLASS.

2017 – BISO 3D VARIOFLEX AIR i

We started the testing of the program with the first real 3D on our company combines in 2017. The 3D VARIOFLEX AIR i is a header with a FLEX module with a parallelogram. The knife is never loaded by the torque and the system has air suspension with special sensors for adjusting the “intelligent” functions like adjusting the ground pressure from 2-50kg. The header has many automatic functions. The driver can activate the FLEX module and work completely in automatic mode.  With this header, you can harvest all crops including flat crops, soya and peas in top quality up to 14m height. This header is able to feed the biggest combines on the market very well. BISO is expecting the new 3D category to be a standard in the near future just like the vario system was 20 years ago.

A demonstration of the 3D header class technology – how gently is the cutter bar touching the ground with the integrated fully automatic intelligent function of FLEX module with independent parallelograms …

… and this is the result in wet and VERY sticky soil. You can adjust the ground pressure from 2 up to 50kg …

... this is AIR i ...

... for all conditions.

We were running many tests in very specific conditions – different crops and different soils. 3D is a completely new world in the header technology. Above all, this Hitech feature in our header is more than smart to drive – very easy to handle.

Tests from 2017 in different soya fields. Some of them were “not easy”, but it was a very important period of the new header development for the software calibration.

AUTO mode during a long day with a stable and perfect performance until the late night.  The BISO intelligent functions of AIR i are “FRESH” all the time.

In some periods during the last 15 years, the turnover of BISO GROUP was 40% in production and 60% in trading.

In 2014, BISO GROUP was active in many countries with direct BISO branches in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. In the picture is the HQ in BISO Romania.  .

2013 – BISO ProfiSteer header trailer

With the ULTRALIGHT headers, BISO introduced new ProfiSteer trailers to the market with a hydraulic automatic steering of the rear axle. This trailer is kind of a standard equipment for the 10.7m headers and the longer ones.

BISO ProfiSteer with the BISO ULTRALIGHT 1230 header. The advantage of the hydraulic steering is that you can steer manually with a hand pump rear axle in some critical corners in the yard.

You can see that the rear axle is perfectly following the front axle “like a little dog”.

A combine is different from a tractor. A combine moves his rear part from left to right much more aggressively than a tractor. It is nice to test the driving system with a tractor – you can see perfectly what the trailer is doing. With the ProfiSteer, the transport with a 12m header is very comfortable and with a 9m header you don’t even “notice” it.

2013 – The BISO ULTRALIGHT with the HYBRID frame (3rd generation)

The HYBRID is coming to the production in the end of 2012. It was introduced at Agritechnica 2013 in Hannover. It is the 3rd generation with a frame from aluminum sandwich profiles in combination with steel frame parts (for example the central console for the connection to the combine feeder house). And on the basis of combining aluminum and steel parts, the frame got the new name HYBRID very fast. Many people are calling this model line as the “new ULTRALIGHT”.

Three models – 1070, 1220 a 1410 – were in offer in 2013. Most of the produced headers have aluminum sidewalls (the drive is usually from both sides) as a result of an extreme pressure on weight saving. The main market for this type of headers was Germany. The 2nd and 3rd generation models of Ultralight are working in the UK, Australia or Canada. Important markets from this point of view are also the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The customers, who are driving these headers for 5 and more years, are appreciating that the frame strengthens and prolongs the lifetime of all the moving parts.  The 2nd generation of ULTRALIGHT already had a very strong frame, but thanks to the hybrid frame of the 3rd generation it got an extremely strong backbone with a very long lifetime of all bearings and moving parts with minimum stress of the auger and less risk of cracking, which is a plus in terms of competition.

The ULTRALIGHT UL1070 with John Deere STS  9880i in the Czech Republic (2013). This is the 3rd generation with the hybrid frame.

The harvest of rapeseed is very comfortable with the ULTRALIGHT headers. You can switch from wheat or barley to rapeseed very easily. On most of the ULTRALIGHTs, you can put the side knives on the hydraulic system of the header from the cab – maximum comfort.

The BISO varioheaders are giving drivers a choice. The vario in the front position is, by most of the drivers, not used only in rapeseed, as you can see in the picture. Many drivers are moving with the vario table during the harvest of every crop in relation to the actual crop, the weather and the field conditions.

2011 – BISO COMPACTOR

The BISO COMPACTOR is a standard machine with many varieties of “working sections” for seedbed preparations. The 4m, 5m and 6m foldable models were in offer. The units are generally sold in Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The BISO COMPACTOR 6000 working in the Czech Republic.  In the picture is the unit with a single rear cambridge roller but more popular is the one with the double roller.

2011 – BISO CropRanger VX TrendLineLight (TLL)

The BISO CropRanger VX750 TrendLineLight (TLL) is the “pulling horse” of the company for many years. It is very reliable, easy to maintain with a very good frame and lighter than the competition. Many of them have plastic floors (ROBALON) and less angel adjustments with electric side knives. It is very popular among contractors thanks to the good ration between the price and the specifications. Usually, it is delivered with the BISO ProfiTrailer.

The CropRanger VX TrendLineLight (TLL) has a different vario system in comparison with the CropRanger HighLine. The vario table moves with the sidewalls (including dividers) and if you switch off the header drive, you can use all the header hydraulic functions.

After many years, the “best spec” requested by professional customers is the hardox floor with an angle adjustment. Officially, it is possible to order angle adjustments only with hydraulic side knives. The angle adjustment is also available as a kit for retrofitting the headers with electric side knives.

The BISO CropRanger VX750 TrendLineLight (TLL) is the “pulling horse” of the BISO company. It is pictured with the New Holland CX8070SL during the 2013 harvest in the Czech Republic. Pictured with electric side knives, plastic floor, less angle adjustment, with lifters and a ProfiTrailer.

For the fields without any rocks you can use a plastic floor with no problem. The electric side knives from BISO are very reliable and very popular in service in some regions. The circuit breaker on the combine is near the accumulators. It’s very easy to restart the system.

The CropRanger VX750 TLL in “standard” BISO spec is a perfect header for high performance combines like the CX8070SL. The CX8080SL is able to match with the VX850 with very good results. The ProfiTrailer is a good solution for both headers.

After many years, we have very good responses from the customers to the steel frame´s lifetime with no cracks or troubles after 10.000ha. Above 7.5m, it is better to choose the hybrid frame.

From 2016, the BISO is supplying the Deutz-Fahr factory with CropRanger TrendLineLight as OEM deliveries in DF colors. The headers for DF have hydraulic side knives and are usually fitted with Schumacher knives and double fingers. The DF combines have an angle adjustment as part of the feeder house.

It is not FLEX but the CropRanger VX TLL that many customers use for soya harvest with very good results. Everything depends on the field conditions. With this header on, you can touch the ground with the double fingers without any problem.

Sampo COMIA C6 with the „BISO KIT“ – the BISO CropRanger VX450TLL with the special BISO SwiftTrailer (or TandemTrailer). For the bigger COMIA C8 and C12, CropRanger VX TLL is the perfect solution.

The smaller BISO CropRanger VX650TLL works perfectly on a small 5 straw walker combine CX5090SL. Such a header is often delivered with the BISO TandemTrailer.

2010 – BISO ATLANT trailers

The company offered the BISO ATLANT trailers in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia on the basis of a contract with the Czech supplier Novasteel. BISO has “attacked” the trailer segment more times and usually with very good products. This segment is a heavily price competitive market and the trailers were sold usually by BISO branches in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and in Romania.

BISO ATLANT 20 –a standard trailer for the very popular trailer segment.

This model line of the BISO ATLANT was very modern at this time and with a possibility to order many interesting options. The trailers are still working today and they are very robust.

In 2013, BISO Ort im Innkreis (Austria) is the main production facility. The second factory – BISO Novaky (Slovakia) is running the production of the CropRanger VX TLL model line.

2008 – BISO ULTRALIGHT with an aluminum frame (sectional one)

This was the first generation of the new header with a new name – ULTRALIGHT. The frame was from aluminium and was built from sections for easier repairs. The sections were glued together and screwed. The model line´s name was BISO ULTRALIGHT 800 (vario movement 80cm) and with this header, BISO has started working with 12m headers in the fields.

The BISO ULTRALIGHT 1200 with the CR9090SL “BlackLady” during tests (2010, Czech Republic).

With the ULTRALIGHT 1200, BISO was learning what the “12m world” means. Customers with 12-15m soil cultivation machines have zero problems with the 12m header (Blazovice, Czech Republic)

At this time, we realized what the real capacity of the flagships is like on the market. Our CR9090SL Elevation had an incredible performance and its key limit was the header. Such combines need enough “material” for a good performance. With a 12m header, you can hit 100ha per day with no problem.

The header looks very good. Including the details. It was a big step forward compared to the competition.

The vario system on the ULTRALIGHT headers was impressive. The performance of the header was very good.

A typical view of the “sectional frame”. The modules were glued together and screwed. The idea that it will be possible to change the damaged module from the service point of view was not confirmed in reality.

The first BISO ULTRALIGHT 870 was sold in the Czech Republic in 2008. Still in service. On the other hand, this header has about 8.000ha.

It’s about the right technology coming in the right time. The combines have heavily increased the performance during the last 20 years and they need better and bigger headers. In some regions, a 9m header was a standard 10 years ago and actually the owners of big combines are asking for 10.7m or 12m headers.

2008 – BISO CropProtector sprayers

In 2008, we introduced a new product to the market in BISO colors – the trailed sprayer – on the basis of the cooperation with the Czech company MGM. These sprayers were offered on the Czech and Slovak markets.

The BISO CropProtector sprayer. Most of the units had the Tracmatic system, 4000 liters and 24 meter long steel arms with Mueller electronics.

2007 – BISO CORNPOWER maize adapter

The offer is the same all the time: 5, 6, 8, and 12 rows. You only need to fix the frames. BISO is using their own gearboxes with a standard setup of the vertical axle of dual chopping knives. We produce for a 70cm row distance (in Romania) and for the standard 75cm one. As an option, an angle adjustment (hydraulic) can be ordered if the combine has no front face manual adjustment system on its feeder house (combines not setup for maize).

The most popular model is the BISO CORNPOWER 8-75 (8row). With the CX8080SL, pictured in 2008 in Slovakia.

The same model in 2013 in the Czech Republic near the BISO Tisnov branch with the CX8080SL. After many years, we can say that we have very simple and reliable products with low running costs. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia we offer direct service and technical factory service support.

In 2010, the 8row CornPower with a foldable frame was tested in Slovakia. This specification has never been introduced in production.

In 2013, the research and development was located in the Austrian factory in Ort im Innkreis. For the last ten years, the company has been heavily working not only on headers and combine adapters but many other machines are in-house developed, e.g. disc harrows or compactors.

2007 – BISO X80/X90 tractors

On the basis of cooperation with the Chine YTO tractor producer, we have started a big project. In the first phase, we focused on models BISO X80 and BISO X90, later on BISO X90N, BISO X100 and X125. These models are simple mechanical tractors based on the FIAT AGRI technology.

The key models delivered by BISO were X80 and X90. Besides this, the company delivered some units of X100/X125 with common rail engines from Perkins, and a small X50.

2007 – BISO FixFramer and SemiFramer ploughs

This year, we introduced a range of mounted (FixFramer) and semi mounted (SemiFramer) ploughs to the Czech and Slovak market under the BISO name on the basis of agreement with the Czech plough producer company SUKOV. All these models had only fixed frames (no vario) and were secured by a bolt.

All the models of BISO FixFramer ploughs had a fixed frame. Memory valve was an option.

The name of the whole model line was BISO FRAMER.

2007 – BISO CropTrailer

This new range of two- and three-axle trailers was the first attempt of BISO with such a product under their own colors. For this reason, we cooperated with the Czech company ZDT. The trailers were delivered only for the Romanian market.

The first BISO CropTrailer trailer line makes us highly thought of in Romania.

2006 – BISO CropRanger VX1200 PremiumPlus

This completely new header with a “standard” name CropRanger, was shown for the first time at Agritechnica Hanover 2007 and a year later at Techagro Brno. It was the first 12m header with a steel frame and very unique integrated support wheels with air suspension. The FLEX module was not omitted this time. This was the first “touch” with the 12m segment.

The production and final assembly of the ULTRALIGHT model´s second and third generation was done in the Ort factory.  In the picture, you can see the hybrid frame of the 3rd generation. The production in this factory has started in 1996.

2005 – BISO TERRA ploughs

BISO made the first step in the plough segment with ploughs from the Austrian company REGENT. In Slovakia, the ploughs were sold in high specification, but most of the units were sold in Romania.

2005 – BISO SUNPOWER sunflower adapter

Professional farmers search for this kind of technology during the sunflower harvest because of a target to minimize the losses. BISO was offering the sunflower kit for the CropRanger header, later, the conversion kit for the CornPower adapter (the latest version works very well) and in 2005, they started the production of the special adapter for SunFlower with vibrating shoes.

BISO Hurbanovo (Slovakia) – our contracting unit. The BISO SUNPOWER 12-75 fits just well on the CR9090ST, but we usually run this unit on the CX8070SL or the CX8080SL with a fantastic performance. For a harvest with minimum losses you need “speed”.

A picture from BISO ROHOVCE (Slovakia) – the SUNPOWER 6-75. It is on a CX combine but it will work well with much smaller combines.

2005 – BISO SoyaFLEX extension

The SoyaFlex adapter from BISO was in offer in the first phase up to the 9m header width. This product is focused on all the brands with NO vario headers. In the flex mode, the load of the knife gearbox, the lever and the knife is so high, that the actual width limit with a one side drive is 7.5m. BISO is able to produce the SoyaFLEX extension for standard headers from John Deere, New Holland, Case-IH, Laverda and Claas. Some unique solutions are made for the CLAAS VARIO headers up to the V750 model.

The mechanical FLEX modul on the Laverda header FreeFlow. The knife and double fingers are touching the ground so the wear is high – but the result is perfect.  On this unit, we have a standard BISO knife and BISO double fingers.

Every field of soya is different. In the picture, the BISO soya is treated by row crop cultivation. The biggest problem is the weed. The BISO SoyaFLEX extension is in comparison with the competition, very soft (flex module).

It is very important to fit the extension in a correct angle on the header. In the picture, there is the CLAAS V750 header. There is no possibility to adjust the angle between the combine and the header, so the extension must fit perfectly.

BISO is able to produce the SoyaFLEX extension only for one vario header – the CLAAS VARIO.

2003 – BISO FIELBOSS heavy disc harrow

An original heavy disc from the BISO X-type, available in 5m, 6m and 7m variations. With a disc diameter of 72cm, it is fit to do the hard work. The front working depth adjustment system (on option) is quite unique. Sold generally in Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

A really robust and heavy disc harrow. BISO FIELBOSS 7000 is a powerful product that prefers a 350+ power tractor. After 15 years of fantastic times for “short discs”, the customers are starting to look again for such a real disc with all the “X” characteristics. Completely produced in BISO SLOVAKIA.

The disc diameter is 72cm (Slovakia, 2006).

In this picture, you can see the “layout” of the BISO FIELDBOSS disc harrows. Front two wheels are parts of the working depth adjustment system (as option).

The BISO FIELDBOSS 7000 (Slovakia, 2019). Thanks to the dry weather, the request for really heavy disc harrows is coming back. In comparison with the year 2003, the availability of tractors with 400+ power is a problem no more.

2000 – BISO CropRanger VX vario header

CropRanger means BISO and … BISO means CropRanger. The production started in 2000 and the following year, this header got a medal at Agritechnica Hanover. Great success for BISO SCHRATTENECKER. A German company in Austrian hands. And with the CropRanger, BISO has introduced a new phenomenon – the BISO ProfiTrailer.

In the first 10 years, many people were saying that the CropRanger VX is a “heavy header”. In comparison with the simple and standard headers, it was really heavy. But a fantastic product. The CropRanger was ok but some combines were not strong enough at that time. However, it became a widely used header afterwards. Models VX650 and VX750 are perfect. Universal all-rounders. In the picture is the CX8080SL with a BISO CropRanger VX850 HighLine (Slovakia, 2014). One of the last produced units.

Models like the VX900 HL or the VX950 HL were the “first touches” with the frame limit.  And BISO made 20 years of experience afterwards. The BISO stand at Agraria Wels, 2009.

The BISO CropRanger VX HighLine (HL) usually means – VARIO 70cm, integrated hydraulic side knives, stainless auger, angle adjustment and plastic reel wrap protection. And every driver tells you – the BISO standard is a water and soup canister. In the picture is Laverda M306 with the BISO CropRanger VX650HL (Czech Republic, 2011).

In 2006, the 9m header was a “big header”. In the picture is NH CR9080SL with the BISO CropRanger VX900HL (HighLine). A stainless auger was typical for this header that has a longer lifetime and is generally stronger than the standard one (Slovakia, 2006).

1996 – New BISO factory in Ort im Innkreis

It is a very nice production place placed besides the highway from Linz to Passau with an assembly line for BISO SCHRATTENECKER products, a central spare parts storage and with an administration center with research and development “in house”.

1995 – Schrattenecker overtook BITTER & SOHN (BISO)

The German company BITTER & SOHN (BISO) generally produced combine choppers. This was a company with a very long history. In 1995, Franz Schrattenecker Junior bought this company and moved the production to his home near Scharding in Austria. The following year, he built a new factory in Ort im Innkreis.

Combine chopper is a typical product for the BISO company. The chopper is a part of BISO´s logo. In the picture is the latest specification of chopper and chaff spreaders for the NH CX8000 model range.

In the picture is the chopper from 2006 for the CX8080 combine. In this time, BISO was offering a better solution including chaff spreaders. However, the montage of the kit on the combine was usually done in stress before the harvest, which can be viewed as a disadvantage.

A typical serial plate from BISO SCHRATTENECKER.

1985 – BISO INTEGRAL CX100 rapeseed extension

The key product for BISO SCHRATTENECKER company. On many farms, you can find this product even  now. Yellow with a typical BISO INTEGRAL CX sticker. This was the right product in the right time on the right place. The rapeseed extension from BISO was produced in top quality, in high volumes and the farmers realized very quickly during the rapeseed harvest the advantages of this technology.

A product for all brands of combines. In the picture, you can see the Laverda at the Brno Fair in 2010 with a BISO INTEGRAL CX. At this time, the vario headers were already dominating the markets. But not in all regions and not in all combine power categories.

1985 – Schrattenecker – FIAT AGRI Raasdorf dealership

On the basis of a contract for sale and service of FIAT AGRI machinery, the Schrattenecker family opened a new branch in Raasdorf (near Wien). In 1990, a completely new branch was built in a modern style.

The BISO Eggerding branch. They started with Laverda combines and later continued with the New Holland brand as specialists for combines in Austria.

1983 – Schrattenecker – FIAT AGRI dealership

The family got a contract for sale and service of FIAT AGRI tractors (and Laverda combines) including the local region in Austria near the German border.

1976 – Schrattenecker - new workshop and office in Eggerding

The family has built a workshop for agricultural machinery service and an administration building.

1934 – Schrattenecker - family overtook "Schmied in Dobl" in Eggerding

The oldest important note about the Schrattenecker family from Eggerding (Austria) dates back to 1934 when they bought the actual place of BISO EGGERDING.

… and what is missing? A lot. The ProfiTrailer, CornCobCollector ….
